New Delhi, May 9: The Supreme Court has questioned South Delhi administration why it began demolishing alleged encroachments at Shaheen Bagh while a hearing was set for Monday.
The court ordered that a copy of the petition be sent to the Solicitor General. At 2 p.m., it will hear the appeal. The hearing will start soon.
Earlier, the Supreme Court stated it will consider the Jahangirpuri demolition issue after holiday since it did not have a copy of the government’s response. Following communal riots in the region, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation demolished several residences and shops in Jahangirpuri on April 21 in an alleged anti-encroachment effort.
Notably on Monday, bulldozers arrived in Shaheen Bagh as the South Delhi Municipal Corporation continued its anti-encroachment campaign in the area that was the epicentre of the anti-CAA protests a few years ago.
