New Delhi, Sept 8: A man pretending as a home ministry personnel approached the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Mumbai, causing a security concern, and wandered freely in forbidden areas before being apprehended.
Although Amit Shah’s two-day visit ended on Wednesday, news of the event broke today.
Hemant Pawar, who was detained, is thought to be an Andhra Pradesh MP’s personal secretary. He allegedly followed Amit Shah about for hours while donning an I-card for the home ministry.
He pretended to be a security officer, according to the police.
He was spotted outside the homes of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis, as well as at two events that Amit Shah attended.
An employee of the home ministry who became suspicious alerted the Mumbai Police, who questioned Pawar. The police also discovered that his name was not on the list of the security detail for the home minister.
Pawar was detained. He has spent the last five days in police custody. Following a split in the Shiv Sena on July 30, when Eknath Shinde was appointed chief minister of Maharashtra, Shah made his maiden trip to Mumbai.
