Ranchi, Feb.10: Security personnel deputed in Latehar forest, about 100km from Jharkhand capital, for anti-Naxal operations, today foiled a plan of extremists to create trouble.
The breakthrough came after security personnel compelled the extremists, who all were associated with Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), to retreat after a 40-minute encounter in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. In the encounter not less than 300 rounds were fired from both sides.
“Encounter took place in Mangardaha forest of Chhipadohar police station area of the district. Extremists managed to escape taking advantage of the dense forest after they realised that they could be overpowered by the police,” a police official said.
“After the encounter stopped and search operation was carried out, items like sleeping bags, camouflage uniform, shoes, stockings, blankets, plastic besides other materials were recovered. It is expected that JJMP’s Suraj, Pappu Lovelesh and Ganesh besides 30 to 40 others were involved in the encounter,” the official said.
