Jamshedpur, Feb 10: Broken taps, damaged washbasins and inadequate toilet facilities have led to the woes of policemen residing at the bachelor’s barrack of the Golmuri Police Lines here in Jamshedpur.

The main police barrack currently has 12 toilets which cater to around 400 jawans who reside there.

The problem becomes acute when additional forces come and reside in the barrack when they are called from other districts during festivals and emergencies.

The issue was recently raised by a section of jawans during a crime meeting presided over by the senior SP Tamil S Vannan.

“We are required to use the toilets which are in unhygienic and damaged conditions. The numbers of toilets are inadequate for the jawans residing in the barrack. We have raised the issue before the SSP and look forward to getting a solution soon,” said a  jawan staying at the barrack.

A visit to the Golmuri Police Lines revealed that as such there is no problem for lady constables and assistant constables.

Those residing at the flats with their families inside the campus of the police lines also did not complain about toilets.

But, the problem is faced by those bachelor jawans staying at the main barrack.

Senior SP Tamil S Vannan admitted the problem of toilets at the main barrack. “The problem becomes acute when extra forces come to the barrack,” he said.

He however said that to overcome the problem they have decided to construct 10-15 new toilets at the main barrack.

“The construction work of the toilets will begin as soon as we get the funds,” he said, adding that the funds would also be utilized for repairing the damaged taps, washbasins and septic tanks.

As per norms, one toilet is meant for 12 jawans. Hopefully, the new toilets are expected to end the toilet woes for the men in khakis.
