Jamshedpur, Dec 28: A team of the Jharkhand Excise department in Seraikela-Kharsawan on Wednesday unearthed an illegal mini liquor factory under the Chandil thana area of adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
Led by Excise superintendent, Ajay Kumar, Seraikela-Kharsawan, the team raided a house at Ramgarh village about 15 km away from the steel city along the Jamshedpur-Chandil stretch of the NH-33 and found the liquor factory which was meant to manufacture different popular brands of the Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL).
The raiding team seized a huge quantity of spirit, liquor manufacturing equipment, cartons of filled bottles, stickers and corks from the spot, but the one indulged in liquor making and the house owner managed to escape.
A senior Excise official said that they could establish having talked to some local villagers that a man who resides near Payal talkies in Mango was running the illicit mini-liquor factory by taking the premises on rent.
“We have already gathered information about the illicit liquor manufacturer and will book the accused under the relevant Sections of the Excise Act,” said the officer while talking to lagatar24.com.
The official pointed out that the stocks of duplicate IMFL from the Ramgarh village must be meant to be supplied in the rural areas of both the Seraikela-Kharsawan and East Singhbhum districts.
“As the year-end and new year celebrations are coming closer, the liquor manufacturer had made arrangements for making a huge quantity of the spurious liquor stocks keeping in view the potential demand of the stuff during such occasion,” said the official.
The Excise department official said they would send a sample of seized liquor to a Ranchi-based lab for getting it examined whether it was fit for consumption.
