Jamshedpur, Sept 6: Call it an outburst of emotion or an act of disowning a wrongdoer, family members of Reela Majhiyan, one of the two Naxals killed in an encounter in Seraikela-Kharsawan on Friday, refused to receive her body today. Following the refusal by her kin, the police have decided to get it cremated on their own.

A senior police officer said that those turned up to identify the killed lady naxal’s body had declined to give any reason behind not accepting the body.

Reela Majhiyan (28) was a resident of Chatrochatti thana area in Giridih district and was a member in the outlawed rebel outfit CPI-MAOIST since over a decade. She was associated with the squad of Analda and was considered to be a hardcore naxal.

Another rebel who was killed in the encounter was identified as Kali Munda (29), who was a resident of Khunti district. Kali’s father Sonu Pahan had turned up at the Seraikela Sadar Hospital along with two of his three daughters on Monday and had received the body.

While talking to the media, Sonu Pahan said Kali was the eldest among his four children and had fled home suddenly when he was a school student. He pointed out later they came to know that his son had joined the naxal outfit.

The elderly Sonu Pahan who earns a living by doing agriculture activities said that his son never came back home during the past 15 years and finally they were informed by the police on Sunday that he was killed in an encounter in Seraikela-Kharsawan.

Seraikela-Kharsawan district’s superintendent of police, Anand Prakash confirmed that the bodies of the two naxals killed in the Friday encounter were identified.

“Whereas one of the bodies, identified as Kali Munda has already been handed over to the family members concerned, the body of another naxal identified as Reela Majhiyan is still lying at the Seraikela Sadar Hospital mortuary, ” said Anand Prakash while talking to lagatar24.com.

The senior police officer said the family members of the killed lady naxal had also turned up and identified it but refused to receive it.

“As the kin of Reela Majhiyan refused to take the body back, we are left with no option than to get it cremated on our own. The preparations for the cremation is on, ” said the SP.

The two naxals were killed in the encounter with paramilitary forces at Koya jungle under Kuchai thana area of Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Friday early morning. Police and paramilitary forces had recovered arms and ammunition from the encounter scene later on.
