New Delhi, Oct 18: Seven people, including a pilot, have died in a helicopter crash near Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath on Tuesday. The incident happened near Garud Chatti, which is around 2 kilometres from Kedarnath.

It departed from Guptkashi and travelled toward Kedarnath. From the Phata helipad in Guptkashi, the Aryan Aviation chopper took off and began its journey to Kedarnath. It was planned to travel 33 kilometres.

The helicopter reportedly caught fire above Garud Chatti. The fire’s origin is unknown. An inquiry will shortly start, and rescue crews are already on the scene.

The weather in the Kedarnath pilgrimage location is frequently unpredictable due to its high altitude. While most pilgrims choose to walk the hard trip from Guptkashi to Kedarnath, those who can afford it often choose to hire one of the several helicopter services.

According to early information, a Bell 407 helicopter registered as VT-RPN and operated by Delhi-based NSOP holder M/s Aryan Aviation crashed on the route from Kedarnath to Guptkashi, perhaps as a result of adverse weather, according to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials.
