New Delhi, Oct 18: The Board of Control for Cricket in India named Roger Binny, a former star of the Indian cricket team and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, as its 36th president on Tuesday.

At the BCCI AGM in Mumbai, his appointment was declared official. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is replaced by Binny. Binny (67) was the only candidate to have filed nomination for the BCCI president’s post. The election of the upcoming group of office holders was merely a formality since they will all be elected without opposition.

Binny had previously participated in senior selection committee meetings as a member when Sandeep Patil served as chairman. He would excuse himself from the discussion whenever his son Stuart Binny’s name was considered for inclusion in the Indian team.

In the past, Ganguly held numerous talks with the stakeholders in New Delhi, according to a PTI report. The former India captain was eager to serve a second term as BCCI President, but he was informed that this had never happened before.
