Ranchi, Sept 26: The Ranchi administration plans to deploy several Shakti Commandos in the +2 school and college campuses of the state capital. Keeping in view the safety of college-going girls, this decision has been taken by the city SSP Kishor Kaushal.
Explaining the concept, the SSP said, “The concept of Shakti Commandos already exists in Ranchi. Women police will be stationed around the college for the safety of the girls.”
This decision comes after several complaints have been made regarding the safety of girl students in schools and colleges of the city. Recently lagatar24.com also published a similar story pointing out the issues faced by female students in the college campus in Morabadi.
All colleges and high schools will have women police as power commandos, who will be posted around the college campuses. Along with this, they will also keep an eye on the people hovering around the campuses.
Any girl can easily contact the team of Shakti commandos in case of any kind of problem. The women police of Shakti team will also be in touch with the local PCR, Tiger Police and the local police stations. Girls in need of help can also take help from them if needed.
Two women commandos will be posted outside school and college gates on scooty at the college timings. They will be posted there till school and colleges end classes for the day. Smartphones and wireless will also be provided to these commandos. In fact, in view of the repeated complaints, Ranchi police has started preparations for action against the miscreants.
According to the police department, those who molest girls around the colleges and pass comments and remarks on them are soon to face difficult times. To deal with them, the police have prepared an action plan. All the college going girls will be provided phone numbers from Shakti Commando, PCR, Tiger Police along with numbers of local police stations and senior officers. Hoardings will be put up around the colleges-schools, which will also display mobile numbers of DSP, Shakti Commando, Tiger Mobile and PCR Police.
Notably, crowds of boys gather outside schools and colleges, wherein young boys pass comments on and tease girls passing by. Even though girls often ignore such comments, situations can sometimes worsen.
When talked to in this regard, Arshi, a student of St Xavier College said, “Tea and cigarette shops set up around the school college encourage such activities. A bunch of boys are standing at these stalls, due to which girls also feel uncomfortable in these places.”
Saumya of Gossner College said, “If Shakti Commandos are deployed in the city around colleges, situations should improve. This is a commendable step by the administration, however, I hope it’s not just for a few days and a permanent solution to this problem is looked for.”
Shakti commandos were formed mainly for the protection of girls from anti-social elements. The team was formed in 2016. While the Shakti commando and Shakti app were launched especially for the purpose of providing security to girls and women, this team has been completely inactive for the last two years.
The Shakti commando team earlier operated from the city control room and was also linked with the women’s police station. Slowly over time this system collapsed. However, SSP Kishor Kaushal has ordered to activate it once again and believes it will help if revived properly.
