Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 8: Sharad Pawar, the head of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), dismissed Thomas K. Thomas, a prominent party figure and MLA, from the working committee on Tuesday, alleging ‘serious indiscipline’.
In the Kerala Assembly, Thomas is the Kuttanad constituency’s representative. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is a constituent of the governing Left Democratic Front (LDF) coalition in the state of Kerala.
“In view of the serious indiscipline being committed by you, openly defying the authority of the All India President and state President and making irresponsible allegations against Party members, and filing false complaints using your party position is discrediting the image of the party in public and in the Left Democratic Front. I do hereby remove you from the Working Committee of the Nationalist Congress Party,” Pawar said in a letter to Thomas.
A day after the lawmaker complained to the state police chief about an alleged threat to his life from some NCP members, the party’s state president, P. C. Chacko, dismissed the accusation as “absurd” and the disciplinary action against the lawmaker was taken.
On Monday, Thomas said that he had filed a complaint with the state police chief alleging that some party members had been plotting to have him killed in order to force a by-election in the Kuttanad assembly constituency, which he represents in Alappuzha.
