Ranchi, July 23: The Ranchi Police have arrested cattle smuggler Sagir Khan, who was sitting in the pickup van that mowed down 2018-batch Jharkhand police sub-inspector Sandhya Topno on July 20 in the wee hours.

The arrest took place with the help of a technical cell after the van’s driver Nizar Khan, who was arrested on the same day, gave valuable input to the police.

Sagir is a resident of Tapkara in the Khunti district. He had escaped after the vehicle in which he was sitting flipped by side to escape after knocking the SI. Police have kept him at an undisclosed location and are trying to get information to damage the network of cattle network.

A police official said that Sagir was attested when he was on his way to surrender before the court silently.

“The cattle smugglers having a good network had chalked out a plan to ensure surrender of Khan silently and file a bail application for his release but before it could have been done, Sagir was arrested,” the police official said.

“With Khan, three more suspects have been detained at the police station for questioning. Legal action will be taken against them in case anything is found against them,” the official added.

Police officers associated with the case could not be contacted for their comments.
