Dhanbad, Sept 8: Panic prevailed in the Hospital of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College (SNMMCH) after a fire broke out in the paediatric department outdoor room and dense smoke enveloped the corridor completely.
Having seen the smoke, OPD patients gathered in large numbers and ran away to a safer place. However, the hospital staff swung into action quickly and controlled the fire before it could inflict any damage.
SNMMCH superintendent Dr Anil Kumar, who reached the spot without delay after getting information, said that smoke was spotted at around 10.30 am. “Due to a short circuit the fire broke out but the staff of the hospital controlled it in no time and no damage was witnessed in the incident,” said Dr Kumar.
Paediatric department head Dr Avinash Kumar said that a short circuit occurred in a room of the outdoor department. So, there was no danger to any patient or the attendant. The smoke, of course, spread in the corridor but it did no harm to any person, he added.
