Dhanbad, Sept 21: For the first time, Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad on Thursday organized a workshop on the healthcare for the transgender community and how to solve the problems they face.
At the workshop, the members of the transgender community of the district also participated and they shared their harassment and the problems they go through in their respective institutions as well as embracing situations they have to face in society at different places.
The workshop was jointly organized by the Community medical department and the Medicine department of the medical college. Dr Rishav Kumar Rana, who is conducting a research on “Study on Challenges Faced by High-Risk Groups (HRGs) in Core Composite TI Project While Accessing HIV Prevention Strategy”, shed light on the aim of holding a workshop on the transgender community.
SNMMCH Principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad, Superintendent Dr Anil Kumar, Medicine Department Head Prof (Dr) UK Ojha, Dr Sajiv Chourasia, Dr Raj Laxmi Tubid (HoD Gynaecology), Dr Ravi Ranjan Jha (HoD PSM), Dr Shilpi Kumari ( Psychiatrist), Prof (Dr Rajni Singh ( IIT Indian School of Mines) and Pankaj Kumar ( Manthan IT) suggested how to solve problems of the transgender community and what attitude should be adopted while taking their health care and their promotion in society.

Principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad, Superintendent Dr Anil Kumar and Medicine Department Head Prof UK Ojha highly appreciated the step for holding such a workshop for transgender community members.
Dr Rishav Rana said that it was an attempt to establish direct communication with members of transgender and it was resolved to ensure they get positive responses in all fields and change the attitude of people including medicos about them.
