New Delhi, April 8: The foreign minister of South Korea, who is in India on a two-day state visit, paid respects to Mahatma Gandhi on Saturday at his memorial in Rajghat, New Delhi. Park Jin laid a wreath and added his signature to the Rajghat visitor’s book.
The minister described Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha philosophy as “noble” and said that he had always valued his teachings, which promoted democracy and human rights. He continued by saying that his first trip to India was 27 years ago.
“I visited India 27 years ago, it was my first to India. I always cherish his (Mahatma Gandhi) noble spirit of Satyagraha,” he said.
“I hope we can pursue contributive diplomacy together with India, which is Korea’s special strategic partner to contribute to freedom, peace and prosperity to the world,” he added.
The visit of South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin to India coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Arindam Bagchi, the Ministry of External Affairs’ (MEA) official spokesperson, welcomed Park Jin to India on Friday and stated that his visit will deepen the strategic partnership between India and South Korea.
The advancement of the India-South Korea Special Strategic Partnership was the topic of discussions between Foreign Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his South Korean counterpart on Friday.
“Glad to welcome @FMParkJin of Republic of Korea on his first official visit to India,” Jaishankar tweeted on Friday.
“Our discussions today will take forward our Special Strategic Partnership,” he further wrote.
On Friday, Park stated that South Korea would like to strengthen its already productive relationship with India and concentrate on trade, investment, supply chain stabilisation in the manufacturing sector, as well as essential minerals.
On Friday, the vice president of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, was also visited by the foreign minister of South Korea. The visiting foreign minister expressed confidence about India’s G20 presidency and stated that South Korea would be delighted to cooperate with India.
