Dumka, Dec 30: Former state minister and BJP leader Louis Marandi today staged a dharna outside the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital (PJMCH) here to protest against the alleged negligence of the hospital management in the treatment of injured victims of a road accident in which two women had died after the autorickshaw they were travelling in was hit by stone chips laden truck near Dasoraydih late last evening on Wednesday.
Both the deceased women were identified as Bahamuni Murmu (55) and Anjali Soren (25) and they along with other relatives were returning from Darbarour village when a speedy truck hit the vehicle and escaped.
All the victims were rushed to the PJMCH where Murmu and Soren were declared brought dead whereas six others have still been undergoing treatment.
“Attendants of the injured persons are forced to purchase medicines from outside medical stores and they are not properly being treated,” Marandi said demanding Rs 5 lakh compensation to the dependants of each of the deceased passengers of the ill-fated vehicle.
Notably, the safety of common people goes for a toss along Rampurhat-Dumka road and other stretches in the district due to rogue driving of trucks overloaded with illegally procured stone chips from Shikaripara and other police station areas who often tend to cross the borders of the district hurriedly.
A well-established network operates the illegal transportation of minerals from the district and the government stakeholders, including police remain a mute spectator to the plight of the common passengers travelling on bikes or other light vehicles.
Marandi who had earlier launched a stir against the illegal transportation of minerals from the district said that the practice was still on under the patronage of local ruling party leaders proving costly to the precious lives of common people.
Meanwhile, SDO (Civil) Maheshwar Mahto persuaded Marandi to withdraw her agitation but she was reluctant to oblige him until her demands of compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the deceased persons and proper and free treatment of injured ones were not met.
