SpiceJet planes have been involved in a number of mishaps in the past, which led the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to issue a show-cause notice to the airline. The airline is currently experiencing financial instability due to rising fuel prices and rupee depreciation.
In addition, the airline was mandated to run no more than 50% of its flights for eight weeks by the aviation safety authorities on July 27.
