Ranchi, March 19: A cross-country race was organised at Mega Sports Complex of Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium, Hotwar on Sunday, under the joint aegis of Sports Authority of India and Jharkhand Athletics Association.
A 3 km cross-country race was organised for women under 18 years and a 5 km cross-country race for women above 18 years to empower women through ‘Khelo India 10 Ka Dum’. Meanwhile, Sonam Kumari won a gold medal in the three km race and Sushanti Kumari won a gold medal in the five km race.
During the race, 11 participants participated in the five km event and 143 participants participated in the three kilometres event. There was no participation of general public in the competition. Most of the participants were JSSPS trainees. However, girl players from Ormanjhi, Mandar and some rural areas participated in the competition. All the winners were awarded medals and certificates.
Meanwhile, participants were presented with a certificate of participation. The programme was graced by Kanke MLA Samri Lal along with Dr Madhukant Pathak, Satendra Singh, Shivendu Dubey, Shiv Kumar Pandey, Prabhakar Verma, Ram Prasad, Santosh Kumar, Laxman Ram, Shyam Kumar, Vikash Kumar, MV Rao, Dharmendra Paswan, Shiv Raman, Agni Madhukant Pathak, Vinod Kumar, SK Dutta and JSSPS trainers.
