Colombo, July 19: Sajith Premadasa, the main opposition leader in Sri Lanka’s presidential race, withdrew in support of a rival candidate on Tuesday.

For the greater good of my country that I love and the people I cherish I hereby withdraw my candidacy for the position of President. @sjbsrilanka and our alliance and our opposition partners will work hard towards making @DullasOfficial victorious.

His party will support Dullas Alahapperuma, a former media minister, to replace Gotabaya Rajapaksa who resigned last week.
