Daltonganj, Feb 24: St. Mariam school in Daltonganj held an interactive session of its newly admitted students under the ‘Shreshth Yojna’ with the top brasses of the civil administration.

Palamu DC Shashi Ranjan, DDC Megha Bhardwaj and IAS probationer Ashish Agrawal reached this school and interacted with the students including the newly admitted ones under the Shreshth Yojna.

Speaking to lagatar24.com, DC Shashi Ranjan said the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India has launched Shreshth Yojna. This scheme is exclusively for scheduled caste students studying in classes 9 and 11.

“We approached many schools here to take admission of SC students under the Shreshth Yojna but none got ready. Almost all the schools raised their hands in declining our offer except St. Mariam which came forward and started well on a positive note,” said the DC.

“We held an open examination in which we selected 20 SC students for class 9 and again 20 for class 11. These 40 have been put up in the St Mariam School which is a residential school,” he added.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has mandated a school to be residential for SC students getting admitted there under the Shreshth Yojna.

The DC said that the Government of India spends Rs. 75, 000 per SC enrolled student under the Shreshth Yojna for class 9 which includes students’ academic and individual needs like shoes, uniforms and other needs. Similarly, for students in class 11, the amount is Rs. 1,20,000.

Chairman of St Mariam School Avinash Dev was all praise for DC Shashi Ranjan for having trust in his school for these 40 students.

“Our school always strives hard to achieve excellence for its students and teachers and non-teaching personnel work here like family members,” he said.
