Jodhpur, May 3: Tension has descended on Jodhpur, Rajasthan, after two groups clashed on Monday night over the flying of religious flags. The fights began at the Jalori Gate intersection after miscreants from one community erected an Islamic flag at Balmukand Bissa circle and removed the saffron flag before the Eid-ul-Fitr and Akshaya Tritiya festivities. People from the other group opposed, resulting in a violent confrontation.
The police were forced to use lathi-charge to disperse the gathering after reports of stone pelting. Several police vehicles were damaged as a result of the brawl.

The cops are still on the scene, according to reports. Conflicts that erupted late Monday night are still raging in several regions. Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the skirmishes, the CM Gehlot government has suspended internet services in Jodhpur. As a precaution and to protect law and order in the city, the services have been turned off. Tensions are high in Ashok Gehlot’s state, as the newest incidence of violent conflicts occurs just weeks after the Karauli violence incident, in which several people were hurt by stone-pelting.
