Ranchi: A powerful storm accompanied by heavy rain and thunder hit Ranchi and several other districts of Jharkhand around 3 AM on Sunday, causing significant disruption to normal life. The intense weather continued for over two hours, severely impacting the state capital and areas including Chaibasa, Jamshedpur, Seraikela, Khunti, Chatra, Hazaribagh, and Ramgarh.
Electricity supply in most parts of Ranchi city was knocked out due to the storm, and by 8:30 AM, power had not yet been restored. Residents expressed frustration, making repeated calls to electricity department offices, while technical teams rushed to repair damaged lines and transformers.
According to initial reports, the storm led to several power lines snapping and transformers being damaged across the affected districts. In Ranchi, supply remained suspended in the majority of localities for more than five hours. Authorities confirmed that repair work was underway on a war footing to restore services as soon as possible.
Major roads such as Kanke Road, Harmu Road, and Ratu Road saw multiple instances of uprooted trees, leading to traffic disruptions. In the Upper Bazaar area, an old tree collapsed onto a house, completely destroying its roof. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
The storm, which began around 3 AM and lasted until approximately 5:45 AM, left a trail of destruction and inconvenience. Officials continue to assess the full extent of damage caused by the turbulent weather across the state.
