Ranchi, Oct. 9: The Supreme Court today directed Jharkhand Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh to form a three-member committee to find a solution to a case related to the payment of outstanding salaries of a section of employees pending for the last 20 years.

A division bench consisting of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Rajesh Bindal passed the order while hearing a petition filed by the Bihar State Semi-Government Non-Gazetted Employees Federation and others.

The three-member committee will have officers of the rank of Under Secretary of the Jharkhand, Bihar, and Central Government. The committee will submit its report to the Supreme Court. The next hearing of this case will be on November 7.

Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan present during the hearing requested the court that the chief secretary should not be made physically present in the next hearing. Accepting this, the court has exempted the chief secretary from being physically present during the next hearing.

Notably, the Supreme Court summoned the chief secretary after it found that the Jharkhand government was sleeping over a case relating to the grant of wages to the employees for the last about 20 years. The court was also upset after it found that the government had not even engaged a counsel in this matter.
