New Delhi, Nov 6: India advanced to the T20 World Cup 2022’s semifinals without waiting for their Super 12 match to conclude; they did so as a result of South Africa’s shocking loss to the Netherlands in Adelaide on Sunday.

India earned six points from its four games in Group 2 to advance to the semifinals. Later on Sunday in Melbourne, Zimbabwe will be the opponent in Rohit Sharma’s team’s final Super 12 game. In their Super 12 campaign, India overcame Pakistan, the Netherlands, and Bangladesh but fell to South Africa.

As a result of the defending champions Australia missing out on Net Run Rate, New Zealand and England from Group 1 advanced to the semifinals.

As a result of South Africa’s setback, Pakistan and Bangladesh have a chance to make the semi-finals; the winner of their encounter on Sunday in Adelaide will do so. Pakistan is more likely to go to the semifinals if their match is postponed, even though it is doubtful given their superior Net Run Rate over South Africa’s.

If India defeats Zimbabwe in their final Super 12 game, they will win Group 2 and face England in the semifinal.

Many did not anticipate South Africa’s elimination, especially following their victory over India in the Super 12 game last Sunday. Nevertheless, Pakistan dominated them, defeating the Proteas to keep themselves in the competition.

On the other hand, Bangladesh’s victories over Zimbabwe and the Netherlands have kept them in the competition. In a game impacted by rain last week in Adelaide, Shakib Al Hasan’s team put out a heroic effort against India, giving Rohit Sharma’s team a serious fright.
