Tamil Nadu rains: IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall during next 24 hours

Chennai, Nov 18: The Indian Meteorological Department predicted on Thursday morning that the coastal region of Tamil Nadu is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls in the southern coastal region of Andhra Pradesh- Rayalaseema and adjoining areas of north Tamil Nadu during next 24 hours.

The Low Pressure Area (LPA) over southeast and adjoining southwest Bay now lies as a well marked Low Pressure Area over southwest and adjoining west-central Bay off north Tamil Nadu-south Andhra Pradesh coasts, informed IMD.

“It is likely to intensify into a Depression during the next 12 hours,” said IMD.

♦ Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls over north Tamilnadu & adjoining south Tamilnadu, south Coastal AP & Rayalaseema and isolated heavy falls over remaining districts of south Tamilnadu, south Coastal AP & Rayalaseema during next 24 hours.

The weather department also predicted that strong winds are very likely to prevail over southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and along Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-South Andhra Pradesh coasts.

Meanwhile, fishermen are advised not to venture into the noted areas till November 19. The Chennai district collector declared holiday for schools and colleges on Thursday in view of IMD forecast over heavy rains. All schools and colleges in Puducherry’s Karaikal will also remain closed on Thursday, as Puducherry is likely to experience a ‘generally cloudy sky with heavy rain’ today.
