Jamshedpur, June 28: Tata Steel Foundation (TSF), the social arm of steel major Tata Steel will take forward a transformational journey through its first-ever multi-skill centre in this region.
TSF entered into an agreement with the West Singhbhum district administration in this regard on Monday.
The MoU was signed by Ananya Mittal (IAS), deputy commissioner, West Singhbhum and Sourav Roy, chief executive officer, Tata Steel Foundation, in the presence of Santosh Kumar Sinha (JAS), additional district commissioner, Sandeep Bakshi, the district development officer and Capt Amitabh, head, Skill Development, Tata Steel Foundation.
The centre will provide a multiple set of short-term training programs aimed at capacity building and creating opportunities for employment generation and entrepreneurship among the youth, predominantly from tribal communities, in the region. Besides regular maintenance, the Foundation will take charge of firming up the initial infrastructure.
In addition, the arrangement of training partners, trainers and equipment will also be supported by Tata Steel Foundation.
The centre will begin with four courses comprising warehouse packaging in the supply chain, auto service technician, helper technician and mobile assembly in keeping with the government’s Make in India campaign.
All of these are three-six month courses, identified through a study conducted in the region.
Programmes such as these are being looked upon as opportunities to reach the youth from the most vulnerable backgrounds with meaningful options for skill development which will then ensure a sustainable livelihood through income generation.
Sourav Roy expressed his gratitude and said: “The multi-skill centre marks the beginning of a transformational agenda for the district of West Singhbhum. We are thankful to the administration for partnering us in the growth and prosperity of the region.”
Once ready, this centre will ensure employability for a lot of youth who will receive the training and eventually contribute to meeting the demand for skilled employees in the industrial sectors across the country.
