Dhanbad, Sept 9: Tata Steel Jharia division has selected 440 students from its leasehold colliery areas in Dhanbad for providing free of cost pre-matric coaching.
Sanjay Rajoria, general manager of the Jharia division while informing about the selection of 440 students for coaching said that we aim of promoting quality education among students residing in and around mining operation areas.
There are 17 centres where these classes are organized by Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) for students of pre-matriculation. Coaching classes are operated in two parts from class VIII – X and preparatory classes for class VI to VII.
Last year 175 students of classes IX and X from Jamdova and Sijua were selected and provided online coaching due to lockdown in the wake of the Corona pandemic. Among them, 70 students appeared in the matriculation examination and 100% of them achieved pass marks.
Officials said in 2020-21 session classes were organized online due to Covid restriction. Despite it, 39% of students got above 75% in the examination in which Vikram Kumar Saw of Kapuria scored 92.6% while Shiv Kumar of Jorapokhar scored 90.2%. Vikram Kumar Saw became the second topper in his school.
Shanti Devi, the mother of Vikram, said, “Online classes provided by Tata Steel Foundation have helped our students to perform better in the examination. Since no classes were held in school, I was extremely worried about the results. But I am very proud that he has performed so well.”
Tata Steel Jharia division officials said this time a total of 440 students right from classes VI to X have been selected for online coaching.
Pre –matric coaching camp started by TSF in 2012-13 for English, mathematics, and science subjects has changed the lives of students in the region. Around 3000 students have benefitted through coaching classes so far.
