Jamshedpur, Sept 9: South Eastern Railway has loaded 81.17 million tonnes of originating freight in the first five months i.e. April to August of the current financial year (2021-22), as against 60.29 million tonnes loaded in the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 34.65 per cent.
There is also a rise of 42.49 % in originating freight revenue in comparison to the first five months of the last fiscal.
During April to August 2021, the revenue generation from originating freight loading has been Rs 6651.82 crores against Rs 4668.20 crores in the same period of the previous year.
The main commodities of freight loading during the first five months of 2021-22 were iron ore, coal, pig iron, finished steel, cement and fertilizers, mostly from Jharkhand.
SER has loaded 46.01 million tonnes of iron ore during this period, which is 25 % more than the corresponding period of previous fiscal.
Despite the pandemic situation especially during the first two months of the current financial year, SER has continued with freight transportation to keep the supply chain intact and has registered a steady growth both in loading and revenue generation.
