Ramgarh: Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur Sports Department organized the first-ever Inter Divisional Women Lagori Championship. In the championship, 152 women lagori players from 19 teams from various divisions of Tata Steel displayed their sporting prowess.
In the competition, the women’s Lagori team from West Bokaro Division displayed their best talent by defeating Supply Chain by 2-0 sets in the first round and Tube Division in the quarter-finals by 2-0 sets to make it to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, they defeated Kalinganagar by 3-2 sets to enter the finals. The final match was held with Iron Making in which the West Bokaro team managed to win the runner-up title on losing by 1 point.
On this occasion, the chief guest Hemant Gupta, Head, Sports Jamshedpur honoured the winners and runners-up with trophies and prizes. Mohammad Arshad Ali, secretary of Jharkhand State Lagori Association and Chintamani, member of Lagori Federation were present on the occasion.
On this great success on Tuesday, Anurag Dixit, General Manager, West Bokaro Division, Tata Steel congratulated the West Bokaro Mahila Lagori team during a function at the GM office and wished them a bright future ahead. On this occasion, Rohit Prasad, Head, Administration and other officials of the Sports Department were present.
This was a new sport for West Bokaro Division and it was on the initiative of Rohit Prasad that by calling coaches from Jamshedpur, the women Lagori players of West Bokaro were encouraged and coached to organize an inter-departmental Lagori competition. Due to this training, women players performed better and won the runner-up title in the Inter Divisional Championship.
The West Bokaro women’s Lagori team consisted of Sujata Bharti, Puja Kumari, Priyanka Kumari, Komal Kumari, Majida Khatoon, Neetu Singh Bhogta, Bobby Kumari and Rani Kumari and was coached by Dukhiya Manjhi and Rajeev Ranjan Singh.
