Jamshedpur, Oct 3: The Tata Steel Sports Department announced the launch of the Senior Citizens’ Fun and Fitness League, a six-month-long sporting event designed to cultivate a vibrant sporting culture within our community by involving senior citizens in a diverse range of sporting disciplines.
The event is set to kick off on October 7, 2023, and is inclusive, welcoming both men and women aged 55 and above, with the goal of empowering them to lead active and healthy lives while fostering a sense of camaraderie.
The first tournament will be Badminton. The last date for registration for the Badminton tournament is October 6.
Interested individuals can participate by filling out an online form.
Individuals can also get themselves registered at the Badminton Training Centre, JRD Tata Sports Complex from 7 am to 10 am and evening from 4 pm to 6 pm.
This initiative recognises the pivotal role senior citizens play in society, and their influence on the younger generation is profound.
Guided by valuable input from this demographic, the Senior Citizens Fun and Fitness League aims to provide a platform for them to showcase their skills and promote physical activity.
Active ageing through sports is an excellent way for seniors to maintain physical fitness, mental health and social connections.
Engaging in regular physical activity can help them maintain their mobility, balance and flexibility, which can reduce the risk of falls and injuries.
Participating in sports can also provide social benefits for seniors, as it provides opportunities to meet new people and form new friendships.
Social connections are essential for maintaining emotional well-being and can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
