New Delhi, Oct 3: Relations between India and Canada regarding Khalistan are continuously deteriorating. News has come that the Indian government has said that 40 Canadian diplomats should leave India by October 10. This is the biggest action so far.

According to the Financial Times, the Indian government has told Canada to reduce its diplomatic presence in India. Previously, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs had stated that there were too many Canadian diplomats stationed here, and that their numbers should be reduced. This is the fourth such action taken by India against Canada.

As part of the first action, India first asked a Canadian intelligence officer to leave the country. After that the visa service was stopped. Along with banning the entry of Canadian citizens into India, the Government of India had issued an advisory for Indians travelling to Canada.

In June, the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani in Canada, took place. Canada has implicated Indian agencies in this assassination. The matter has also reached the United Nations. India has consistently rejected Canada’s allegations. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had stated at the UN that some countries are dealing with terrorism for political convenience, which is incorrect.

Besides Canada, there are active Khalistani elements in countries like the United Kingdom, France, Australia, and others. After the Canada-India incident, these countries are saying that they are closely monitoring their entire cases. The United States is appealing for a peaceful resolution of this matter between Canada and India. It is maintaining a policy of balance amid the tensions between India and Canada.
