Jamshedpur, Aug 17: In an addition to passenger amenities, the A-1 category Tatanagar railway station will get its third overbridge soon.

Railway sources said the engineering wing of Tatanagar railway has completed the final blueprint of the Rs 2 crore project. The blueprint was also approved by South Eastern Railway zone.

The third foot overbridge would come up next to the first foot overbridge at the Kharagpur end of the railway station. It will connect platform no 1 with the other four platforms. Work for the project is expected to commence from September.

” The place for putting up pillars has been identified on the platforms. Work for the project was supposed to begin earlier this year but couldn’t due to the second wave of Covid-19, ” said HK Balmuchu, director of Tatanagar railway station.

Currently, the A1 category station has two foot overbridges. The second one costing Rs 1.90 crore was inaugurated in October 2019.

Balmuchu said that Garden Reach, the headquarters of South Eastern Railway (SER), has cleared the proposal of a third foot overbridge sent by the Chakradharpur railway division.

The third foot overbridge would come up at the Kharagpur end of the railway station.

The new foot overbridge which will be an addition to passenger amenities will have facility of a ramp so that wheelchairs, battery vans and parcel trolleys can also be used.

Tatanagar railway station with five platforms is the busiest station under Chakradharpur division of the South Eastern Railway.

The station serves over 90 mail, express and other passenger trains everyday recording a footfall of around 50,000 passengers.

But, due to the coronavirus-induced pandemic around a dozen trains pass through the station these days. The footfall of passengers has also come down drastically.
