Jamshedpur, Oct 29: An 18-year-old girl from Chakradharpur was nabbed with a stolen smartphone at the Tatanagar station platform during crime control checking by the railway police on Thursday night.
Identified as Laxmi Machua, the teenager was forwarded to Chakradharpur thana in West Singhbhum district on Friday morning as she confessed to have stolen the smartphone from a railway quarter on Thursday morning.
A resident of the Rammandir area in Chakradharpur, soon after stealing the gadget, the girl had boarded a train from Chakradharpur to Tatanagar in fear of the act of theft detected in the railway township.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) inspector, Tatanagar, Sanjay Kumar Tiwari said during the crime control checking at the station, a team of the railway police spotted a girl moving around in a suspicious way at the platform No 1 in the night.
“On being queried, the girl tried to evade the queries, arousing the suspicion further. Subsequently, a lady railway cop who was in the team frisked the suspect and found a Real Me, CII smartphone from her possession. As she could not give a proper reply to the queries made about the smartphone, we interrogated the girl further. Then only she confessed to being a mobile phone lifter operating in Chakradharpur, ” said Tiwari.
The RPF inspector said during further interrogation, the girl divulged that she had stolen the smartphone by entering into the Railway quarter No M-16/4A in Chakradharpur.
“By carrying out further investigation, we found out that the railway quarter belonged to a train driver Indrajeet Mahanand and that he has already lodged an FIR with the Chakradharpur thana in connection to the mobile phone theft. Then only we sent the girl in RPF custody to the Chakradharpur thana this morning, ” said the inspector.
The girl is learned to have told the railway police that she had lifted a number of cellphones in Chakradharpur.
