Thailand Open 2022: Malvika Bansod beats Marija Ulitina, Aakarshi loses to Michelle Li

Bangkok, May 18: Malvika Bansod of India began her Thailand Open 2022 campaign with a win over Marija Ulitina of Ukraine in the women’s singles event on Wednesday in Bangkok. On court 2, she won the game 17-21, 21-15, 21-11.

The first game was a close one, with the Ukrainian coming out on top 17-21 against her Indian opponent. Bansod made a tremendous comeback in the next two games, winning 21-15 and 21-11 to help her country win the match. The game was 50 minutes long.

Earlier in the day, Kidambi Srikanth of India won his first match in the Thailand Open 2022 men’s singles draw against Brice Leverdez of France on Wednesday.

In the opening round of the women’s singles, Canada’s Michelle Li defeated India’s Aakarshi Kashyap. Li’s victory was a resounding one, as she triumphed 21-13 and 21-18. The game was 33 minutes long.

Notably, PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, HS Prannoy, and B Sai Praneeth, four of India’s best shuttlers, will compete later today.
