Jamshedpur, Dec 7: Tatanagar railway station will get its third overbridge, a welcome addition to passenger amenities on offer.

The engineering wing of South Eastern Railway ( SER ) has prepared a blueprint of the Rs 2 crore project.

It has set a target of completing the project by early 2023.

Confirming this, director of Tatanagar railway station H K Balmuchu said the third foot overbridge would come up next to the first foot overbridge at the Kharagpur end of the railway station.

It will connect platform no 1 with the other four platforms.

Tatanagar which is an A1 category station currently has two foot overbridges.

The second one costing Rs 1.90 crore was inaugurated in October 2019.

Sources said that Garden Reach, the headquarters of South Eastern Railway (SER), had cleared the proposal of a third foot overbridge sent by the Chakradharpur railway division.

“The foundation work of the bridge will be laid soon. The new foot overbridge which will be an addition to passenger amenities will have the facility of a ramp so that wheelchairs, battery vans and parcel trolleys can also be used,” said an official.

The third foot overbridge is expected to greatly ease passenger rush, especially during peak hours, regular commuters agree.

Tatanagar railway station with five platforms is the busiest station under Chakradharpur division.

The station sees the movement of around 90 mail, express and other passenger trains everyday recording a footfall of close to 50,000 passengers.
