Jamshedpur, July 12:  In a tragic accident on Tuesday morning, three children were killed on the spot as they came under an oil tanker near Jhangiburu Middle School under Manjhari thana area in neighbouring West Singhbhum district.

The incident took place at around 10.45 am when the oil tanker (belonging to IOCL) after refuelling was headed for Chaibasa from Jamshedpur.

As the tanker was negotiating Jhangiburu valley, it lost its brakes and the heavy vehicle started coming backwards. The driver lost control over the vehicle which later turned turtle.

The three children, who were students of Jhangiburu Middle School,  a government school and were sitting at the side of the road could not save them as the tanker came crashing on them, killing them on the spot.

The driver of the oil tanker identified as Shankar Paswan jumped off the vehicle and somehow he could save himself.

On getting information about the tragic mishap, the Manjhari police reached the spot and recovered the bodies.

According to S K Singh, a sub-inspector who visited the spot of the mishap said the victims were identified as Sagar Tamsoy (8), Sukhmati Tamsoy (5) and Pano Tamsoy (6).

On getting the tragic news, the agitated villagers assembled at the spot and put up a road blockade disrupting traffic movement for several hours. The agitators demanded adequate compensation for the victims.
