Dhanbad, Nov 16: Three badminton referees of the state have qualified for the National Grade-2 examination of the Badminton Association of India to be held in Bhubaneswar (Odisha) on December 18.
The qualified referees are Avinash Kumar Tiwary (Ranchi), Madhurendra Kumar ( DVC Maithon Dhanbad) and Anurag Kumar (Dumka).
A senior official of the Jharkhand Badminton Association said that at Bhubaneswar, they will attend a workshop, appear at the written examination and will have to give practicals by officiating matches in the national tournament.
Another ace badminton referee Amit Modak of Jamshedpur has already qualified for National Grade-1 and will appear at the examination at Bhubaneswar in the last week of December.
Notably, in the recent past, Jharkhand referees have made their mark at the national level from their high-quality performance.
“State secretary K Prabhakar Rao has made a blueprint for promoting and attracting badminton referees in the state. A workshop cum training course would be organized for which two referees from each of 18 affiliated districts would be selected,” said the official requesting not to be quoting names as he was not entitled to talk to media about the programme of the association.
The officials also appreciated the performance of some referees who conducted the matches in the state under-15 and under-17 championship cum selection trials held at Dhanbad from November 11 to 13.
