Ranchi: Three years after the Trikut Ropeway accident, the police investigation into the FIR filed in 2022 remains incomplete. The public interest litigation (PIL) related to the incident has already been disposed of, and the Jharkhand government has blacklisted Damodar Ropeway and Infra Ltd.

However, in June 2024, the police filed a charge sheet against ropeway operator Vinit Sinha, mentioning that the investigation is ongoing to identify other responsible parties.

FIR Filed on Mukund Pujar’s Complaint

Following the Trikut Ropeway accident, an FIR (53/22) was registered at the Mohanpur police station in Deogharbased on a complaint by Mukund Pujar. The FIR alleged that negligence in ropeway operations led to the death and injury of several people.

After the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against Vinit Sinha, who was responsible for the local operation of the ropeway. He was charged under IPC sections 287 (Negligent conduct with machinery) and 304(A) (Causing death by negligence).

The investigating officer stated in the charge sheet that it was filed on the oral instructions of senior officials and mentioned that the investigation is ongoing to identify other culprits linked to Damodar Ropeway and Infra Ltd.

Jharkhand High Court Had Taken Suo Motu Cognizance

After the Trikut Ropeway accident, the Jharkhand High Court took suo motu cognizance and initiated a public interest litigation (PIL).

During the PIL hearings, the police submitted an affidavit, stating that the state government had formed a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the accident. The committee submitted its report to the government, and police investigators were reviewing the findings.

Following the affidavit and government actions, the High Court disposed of the PIL. However, there is no official update on what the police found from the high-level committee’s report and how the investigation has progressed since then.
