New Delhi, Nov 14: Ajit Kumar, the superintendent of Delhi’s Tihar Jail, was today suspended for allegedly giving Satyendar Jain, an Aam Aadmi Party minister who was imprisoned, special treatment.
The decision was made in response to a committee’s report, which was formed after jailed conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar accused the superintendent of jail number 7, where Jain is being held, of giving excessive favours.
“He has prima facie been found to have committed irregularities that warrant inquiry,” said Delhi government’s prison department.
Sukesh Chandrasekhar had previously claimed, in an astonishing assertion that was debunked by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, that he was forced to pay Satyendar Jain 10 crore as “protection money” through Director General (Prisons) Sandeep Goel. Then Goel was moved from Tihar Jail. Delhi’s police are under the command of the national government.

Sukesh Chandrasekhar said in the letter that “I know Satyendra Jain since 2015… have contributed more than 50 crore to AAP.” He claimed he paid the cash because he was promised a position in the Rajya Sabha in exchange.

The AAP leader allegedly received special treatment, according to the Enforcement Directorate, which is looking into the money laundering case in which Jain was detained.
“Unknown persons were giving massages and foot massages to Jain, even beyond curfew hours. He was given special food,” Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju, appearing for the ED, had said.
