Dhanbad, Nov 14: The Dhanbad Action Group (DAG), the prominent social organisation today organised ‘Run for Diabetes’ in the coal city to mark World Diabetes Day for awareness of people against this silent killer.
The Dhanbad civil surgeon (CS) Dr Alok Vishwakarma flagged off the rally which started at Shramik Chowk near the railway station and terminated at Randhir Verma Chowk near the district court.
Dr Vishwakarma, sales tax commissioner Reena Singh, Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) Jharkhand chapter chairman/national body executive member DR NK Singh, senior medical officer Dr Ashutosh Kumar Singh, DAG director Dr Leena Singh, lawyers, professors, and school teachers participated in large number in this run for awareness of people.
Dr Vishwakarma, who completed the run, appealed to the guardians to protect their children from fast food items such as pizza and burgers for good health.
“Diabetes could be kept away by avoiding these food items,” he said.
The RSSDI Jharkhand chapter chairman Dr NK Singh on the occasion appealed to people to keep fast, walk daily, exercise and eat selected food items because only regularised routine can keep diabetes away.
“Consult a physician and take his advise immediately if you feel weight loss or tiredness,” he said.
For marking World Diabetes Day, the Dhanbad Action Group decorated the Shrami Shramik roundabout with Blue Balloon and held a Healthy Fast Food Mela ar Randhir Verma Chowk in which food items were displayed to avoid the disease.
As per the DAG survey, 15 to 18% of people in urban areas and 7 to 12% in rural pockets in the state are diabetic. RSSDI on directive International Diabetic Federation (IDF) would carry on an awareness campaign against diabetes in all 24 districts of Jharkhand from November 15 for a month.
Rishav Manav, Dheeraj Sharma, Ravi Srivastava, Ramesh Gandhi, and Lalu Singh were the DAG members who were involved in observing World Diabetes Day.
