New Delhi, May 7: The Union Health Ministry said on Saturday that the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses provided in the country has surpassed 190 crores.
The first dose of COVID-19 vaccination has been provided to more than 3.01 crore (3,01,97,120) youngsters aged 12-14 years. 9,95,265 precaution doses have been given to those aged 18 to 59.
On April 10, India began giving COVID-19 vaccine precaution doses to people above the age of 18 at private vaccination centres.
The precaution dosage is available to anyone above the age of 18 who has completed nine months since receiving the second dose.
The first phase of the countrywide Covid vaccination programme began on January 16, 2017, with healthcare professionals receiving vaccinations. Frontline employees began receiving vaccinations on February 2, 2021.
The next phase of the COVID-19 immunisation began on March 1, 2021, for persons over the age of 60 and those aged 45 and over who have certain co-morbid disorders.
From April 1 of last year, the country began a vaccination campaign for all people over the age of 45. From May 1 last year, the government decided to broaden the campaign by enabling anybody above the age of 18 to get immunised against the viral disease.
The latest round of vaccinations for adolescents aged 15 to 18 years old began on January 3.
From January 10, India began giving vaccine precaution doses to healthcare and frontline workers, as well as individuals aged 60 and older with co-morbidities.
From March 16, the country began immunising youngsters aged 12 to 14, as well as removing the co-morbidity clause, allowing anyone over the age of 60 to receive the precaution dosage of Covid vaccines.
