Ramgarh, Nov 14: Ramgarh College on Monday began the Tribal Pride Day celebrations in its seminar hall.

Presiding over the programme, Principal Dr Sharda Prasad paid tribute to Birsa Munda and said that the special place which Birsa Munda achieved at the age of 25 is incomparable. He built an effective organisation of tribal society on the strength of subtle knowledge and foresight.

She added, “The British were so frightened by him that finally, this phrase came true, ‘Lanka Dhahana’. Meanwhile, his own got him arrested for a small amount of Rs 500. Even when he was moving towards death, he was shining like a star which shows the way to the shipwrecked in the storm.”

Keynote speaker, Dr Rose Oraon, Assistant Professor, History Department, spoke about the contribution of tribal women like Champi, Maki Munda, and Donka Munda’s wife Shali Munda, in the freedom struggle of Jharkhand, which is mentioned only in nominal terms. Several women agitators have been left in history and were treated by historians as part of a mob.

Priyanshu Kumari, Rekha Kumari, Uma, Ajay, Preetu, Ravi Karmali, and Wasim Akhtar among the students of the college expressed their views on various aspects of the life journey of Birsa Muda.

The Ramgarh Mahavidyalaya family supported Dr Rose Oraon, Dr Malini Deen, Dr Balwanti Minj, Prof.  Asim Santosh Khalkho, Dr Neetu Minj, Dr Shalini Prakash, Vishnu Oraon, Virendra Oraon and Sumant Mahali were honoured for their significant contribution to the college.
