Ahmedabad, Feb 10: Former India cricketers Laxman Sivaramakrishnan and Murali Kartik discussed Virat Kohli’s dismissal in the second One-Day International against West Indies on Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Kohli, who hasn’t been at his best recently, was out flashing outside the off-stump to a medium pacer once again. Odean Smith, who was drafted into the West Indies XI when usual leader Kieron Pollard was sidelined with a niggle, dealt India a major blow by dismissing Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli in the same over. Kohli edged a wide one to the keeper in the last ball of the 12th over, while Pant was out trying to loft a delivery from far outside the off stump.
One of the most typical methods of dismissal for the former India captain has been edging the ball to the slip cordon while pursuing longer length deliveries outside the off stump.
Former India leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan analysed Kohli’s dismissal and stated the right-demise hander’s was due to a lack of stable footing.
“No firm footing there from Virat Kohli. He generally gets his front foot planted in a very good position but not that time around. That delivery was on ideal length. A little bit of stutter with the footwork (was also there),” said Sivaramakrishnan.
“He’s too classy a player… The runs will come… Just the mindset and the decision making in the last couple of years (has been indifferent). These are not the shots you will see him playing in the early part of his innings. It seems as if he wants to boss the opposition because he has been doing that for 13-14 years,” Kartik said.
Notably, Kohli has not scored a century for close to two and half years now. The last time he got to three figures was back in November 2019 in a day night Test against Bangladesh.
