New Delhi, Nov.12: Two Bangladeshis were killed on Friday after the BSF opened fire near the International Border in West Bengal’s Coochbehar to stop a cattle smuggling attempt.
A border force jawan was also hurt and was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
The incident occurred at 3 a.m., when “miscreants from Bangladesh entered Indian territory and attempted to smuggle cattle heads by erecting an improvised bamboo cantilever,” according to the spokesperson.
They were told to return by Border Security Force (BSF) forces stationed ahead of the India-Bangladesh border barrier, but they did not listen, he said.
“BSF troops utilised non-lethal munition to deter the miscreants, but they attacked on the troops with iron dah and sticks. Sensing imminent threat to life, the BSF party fired in air towards miscreants,” the spokesperson said.
“Later on during the search, bodies of two unknown miscreants were found between the border fence and international boundary,” the spokesperson added.
