Dhanbad Dec 15: Two former general managers (GM) of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) on Thursday surrendered in the Court of CBI Special judge Rajnikant Pathak in a five-year-old scam of Rs 11.5 crores Chinese road header machine purchase.

Senior lawyer Samar Srivastava who appeared for the accused officers of BCCL said that the court released them immediately after submitting bond papers. The High Court had directed them to surrender in the court.

The CBI anti-corruption cell had on September 23, 2021, charge sheeted 17 senior officers of BCCL including former chairman TK Lahari and others in the alleged Rs 11.5 crore road head machine purchase scam. However, four officers were given clean chit in the case.

The road header machine was purchased from a Chinese company in 2017. It had been alleged that BCCL’s top brass had violated government norms and established standards in purchasing the machine. A substandard machine was purchased in an alleged conspiracy with a Chinese company.

Earlier, on Wednesday, eight officers of BCCL including former chairman cum managing director (CMD) TK Lahari, Rudrajit Dasgupta, Dinesh Chandra Jha, Keshri Kishore, Sharan Sinha, Girja Upreti, Alok Mandal, Madan Mohan Mishra and Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty had surrendered in Court of CBI special judge Rajnikant Pathak and were released on bond.
