Jamshedpur, Sept 14: Two teenagers from the steel city were suspected to have drowned in the Subernarekha river along Kanderbera under Chandil Thana’s Kapali Thana outpost in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Wednesday afternoon.

Police on Thursday morning started a search operation after recovering the clothes and school bags of the two boys identified as Kunal Kumar Singh and Shubham Kumar from a point close to an intake well in the Subernarekha along Kanderbera. A Scooty belonging to Kunal was also lying parked near the spot.

Both Kunal and Shubham were residents of Mango and Agrico respectively and students of KMPM Inter-college in Bistupur. They used to return home from their school by 1:30 pm every day.

On Wednesday afternoon, when Kunal did not return home despite the inordinate delay, his mother tried to contact him over his cellphone. But instead of Kunal, OC, Kapali TOP received the call and asked her to come to Kanderbera. On rushing to Kanderbera, Kunal’s parents found their son’s clothes, bag and the Scooty near the river bank along with the belongings of another boy.

On Wednesday the anxious parents of the two teenagers had searched for the victims around the swollen river with the police. But the police have resumed the search operation from Thursday morning and have asked for professional divers for the job.

A police officer while talking to lagatar24.com said as the point where the two teenagers were suspected to have been drowned is about 70 feet deep, no local divers agreed to do the searching as it requires oxygen cylinder for the job.

No professional diver has, however, turned up at Kanderbera till 1.00 pm today.
