Dhanbad July 25: Arup Chatterjee, the head of Ranchi-based news channel News 11 Bharat who is currently in jail, has gotten himself into extra trouble as two new cheating cases were filed against him in two different Dhanbad police stations in 24 hours.
Former Dhanbad District Board Chairman Robin Gorai filed an FIR against Arup Chatterjee in the Kalubathan Police Station, 33 kilometres from the district’s administrative centre, for defrauding a fixed deposit scheme of Rs. 10 lakh, while Amtal Panchayat Mukhiya (chief) Sanjay Kumar filed an FIR against him in the Baliapur Police Station for defrauding a fixed deposit scheme of Rs 7.11 lakh.
When contacted officer-in-charge of Kalubathan police station Mukesh Kumar Raut and officer-in-charge of Baliapur police station Pawan Kumar Choudhary, both confirmed that the FIRs had been filed on Sunday against Arup Chatterjee, the director of Care Vision Infrastructure and Aggregate Limited Company (a non-banking financial institution), in connection to alleged 10-year-old cheating.
“After investigation, further action would be initiated against him,” said both the police officers.
Arup Chatterjee, the News11 Bharat head has been in jail since July 20 in connection with demanding extortion and blackmailing charges in the name of airing news from a coal trader Rakesh Ojha of Dhanbad.
Arup Chatterjee is a resident of Bhuli township in Dhanbad district and later he shifted to Ranchi.
Amtal Panchayat Mukhia Sanjay Kumar in his FIR in Baliapur police station has alleged that in 2012, Chatterjee visited his house with an attractive scheme of fixed deposit on a higher return. On February 24, 2012, Arup again reached out along with other staff at Sanjay’s house and collected Rs 7,11,500 in the name of the scheme but gave the receipt of only Rs 1 lakh assuring that he would send the paper of FD later on but he never sent it.
Meanwhile, former District Board chairman Robin Gorai has levelled a similar charge against Arup. In his complaint to Kalubathan police station, Gorai has alleged that Arup took Rs 10 lakh for investment in Care Vision Infrastructure and Aggregate Limited Company deposit scheme in March 2012, assuring that the receiving would be sent but he never sent it. The company also closed down afterwards.
Though Jharkhand High Court had given bail to Arup Chatterjee on July 21, he was again arrested in a 9-years-old cheating allegation lodged by one Manoj Pandit in Putki police station of Dhanbad.
