Jamshedpur, Oct 23: Two bike-borne youngsters who used to snatch purses from women in different localities of the steel city were arrested by a team of Bistupur police.
What makes the arresting significant is that one of the snatchers identified as Niranjan Duban is an engineering student. The other accused was identified as Rajkamal Gorai.
The duo had committed the snatching near the Circuit House roundabout the Sonari-Sakchi road in broad-day-light just 50 metres away from the residence of senior SP, M Tamil Vanan.
Revealing about the breakthrough, the senior SP said that on Friday at about 11 am, two bike-borne youths had snatched the purse of a woman scooty rider near Circuit House roundabout, leading the victim to lodge an FIR with the Bistupur thana.
“Soon after getting the complaint a police team led by Bistupur thana OC, Vishnu Raut swung into action and succeeded to trace both the snatchers within six hours, ” said Vanan while talking to the media.
He pointed out on being interrogated, the arrested persons divulged that a day earlier on Thursday they had snatched a purse from another young woman on Gandak Road in Sakchi around the same time of the day.
“After further interrogation of the accused, the duo led the police team to their houses in Devnagar in Sidhgora thana area from where the snatched up purses were recovered, ” said the senior police officer.
He said besides the purses, the police team recovered two smartphones, new ladies garment and Rs 5,700 that the two had snatched during the two consecutive days in Bistupur and Sakchi respectively.
He pointed out that the police also seized two motorcycles that the snatchers had used in committing the crime on Thursday and Friday.
According to the senior SP, the two bike-borne youngsters were new in the snatching crime and used to target women and girls only as resistance from such victims happens to be minimal.
