Dhanbad, Dec 3: Two specialist doctors, cardiologist Satish Kumar and gynaecologist Dr Rupam Singh at Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) have sent their resignation to serve rural patients.
As per the service guidelines, both doctors have already sent three months prior resignation notice to the BGH management. Dr Satish Kumar’s three months prior notice will complete on December 14, 2021 while Dr Rupam Singh who reportedly had sent a resignation notice last month would work at the hospital till January 25, 2022.
BGH official sources said that both the doctors are left with two and three years respectively in retirement. As per the official record, Dr Satish Kumar and Dr Rupam Singh have been associated with BGH for the last two decades.
This is the first time in the annals of BGH that specialist doctors have resigned for serving rural patients. The officials at BGH that several specialist doctors had resigned from BGH and joined at super specialty hospitals of Mumbai and other metropolitan cities in the past, but this is the first time that medicos of this prestigious hospital of SAIL have resigned for serving rural patients of Bokaro district.
“I would either open a clinic or give service in a rural pocket-based private hospital with available advanced technology for serving patients,” said Dr Satish Kumar to media persons when contacted on Friday. Dr Rupam Singh, on the other hand, will serve at a private hospital.
The resignation notice of two specialist doctors has created a major crisis for the BGH management. A senior officer of BGH said that the management had invited applications for specialist doctors but the required number of personnel did not turn up.
Notably, critical patients of North Chotanagpur and Santhal Pargana districts are referred to BGH for treatment. But in recent years, several specialist doctors have left the institution.
