Udaipur: The city of Udaipur is on high alert after a stabbing incident involving a Class 10 student at a government-run school escalated into communal unrest on Friday. The local administration responded by suspending internet services for 24 hours to prevent the situation from worsening.
The stabbing incident, which occurred during school hours, led to the immediate detention of the accused student by the police. Following the incident, tensions flared across the city, prompting Udaipur district collector Arvind Poswal to order the closure of all schools and colleges on Saturday until further notice.
In an official notification, the administration cited concerns over the law and order situation as the reason for the internet shutdown. The move is seen as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of misinformation and prevent further violence.
BJP MLA Phool Singh Meena condemned the incident, describing it as “tragic” and calling for stern action against the accused. “The situation in Udaipur has escalated into a riot. We should demolish the accused’s house with a bulldozer. It’s crucial to prevent such incidents. The government will take action against those responsible for the crime. We’ve seen a similar outcry in Udaipur as we did during the Kanhaiyalal murder case,” Meena stated.
Speaking to India Today, District Collector Arvind Poswal mentioned that the injured student’s condition is serious, with complications in his kidney. Expert doctors from private hospitals have been called in to provide necessary medical care.
The police have registered an FIR against unknown persons in connection with the violence that erupted on Friday. Prohibitory orders have also been imposed across the district to maintain peace.
“The Internet has been shut down in parts as a precautionary measure,” Poswal said, adding that further investigations into the stabbing incident are ongoing.
