New Delhi, Nov.27: Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Saturday, asked farmers protesting against the three farm laws on the outskirts of Delhi to call off their demonstrations and return home, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that the laws will be repealed.
“The bill to repeal the three farm laws will be tabled in the Parliament on the first day of the winter session (on November 29). PM Narendra Modi has announced to constitute a committee to deliberate on the issues of crop diversification, zero-budget farming, and making the MSP system more transparent and effective. This committee will have representatives from farmers’ organizations,” he said to news agency ANI.
“With the constitution of this committee, farmers’ demand on MSP stands fulfilled. Farmer organizations had demanded to decriminalize stubble burning by farmers. The Government of India has accepted this demand as well,” he further said.
“After the announcement of the repeal of the three farm laws, there is no point in continuing farmers’ agitation. I urge farmers to end their agitation and go home,” he added.

Since November 26, 2020, farmers have been protesting against farm laws on Delhi’s numerous boundaries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared last week that the Centre will introduce appropriate bills to repeal the farm rules during the winter session of Parliament, which begins later this month.
The government will also form a group to work on a new Minimum Support Price (MSP) structure, according to the Prime Minister. The introduction and passing of the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021 has been scheduled. It is one of 26 new bills on the government’s agenda.
The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance, Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 are all set to be repealed by the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021.
However, according to Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesperson Rakesh Tikait, farmers will return home when the government fulfils their demand for a law on MSP.
“After the government agrees our demand for a law on Minimum Support Price, we will end our protest and return home (MSP). We have no plans to remain at the Delhi border until January 26. We will return home if the government meets our demand for MSP and compensation for the 750 farmers who perished during the protest,” Tikait has stated previously.
